EXCURSION
📅: Tuesday 03-10-2023
📍: FENIX, Rotterdam
🕧: 13:30 - 17:00
In 1932, the largest storage and transshipment warehouse in the world opens its doors on Katendrecht. The San Francisco warehouse, as it is called then, is 360 metres long and was designed by architect C.N. van Goor. The warehouse is owned by the Holland America Line and used to store bulk goods such as grain and steel. In 2020, the restoration of Fenix Warehouse II starts.
An artwork with a spectacular view is being added to the warehouse: the Tornado. When walking up the double-helix staircase of the Tornado, the visitors will be able to choose different paths to journey through FENIX. Its structure comes out of the roof of the building so that people can overlook the skyline of Rotterdam. The Tornado was designed by the Chinese architectural firm MAD Architects, and it is a symbol of departure and arrival around the whole world.
The excursion will start at the IMd office in Rotterdam for a presentation and a tour, after which we will to the constructionsite of FENIX.
